I’m a DirectTV subscriber. Should I check with DirectTV on getting my TiVo? Does it matter? What are my options?

I don’t know where to begin…I have Windows Vista, brand new HP desktop. I have Verizon DSL with a router connected plus wireless in the computer. Every few hours, my computer cannot connect to the internet. When I type in a website, it clears from the address bar and the page reads “Address Invalid.” I have IE and Firefox. My Tivo remains connected to the internet with no issues. The computer stays connected to my network and almost appears to be “online” but its not. When I diagnose the problem it tells me the problem cannot be repaired automatically. The only solution is to restart the computer. I’ve reloaded all factory software twice and still haven’t resolved this. Since the TiVo stays connected, it’s got to be an issue with the computer. I tried OpenDNS as my DNS server and thought it would fix the problem, but it doesn’t. I’ve followed countless ipV6 reconfiguration steps with no success. I have no encryption on my network and my antivirus is configured to allow access. HELP
Renewing, releasing and configuring my IP does nothing - safe mode does nothing - neither IE nor Firefox will accept a web address when this happens - sometimes it’s when the computer is idle for a while and sometimes it’s when I’m in the middle of something, like purchasing something which wreaks havoc on my credit card - only rebooting the computer gets me back online for another few hours before it happens again - all my hardware is functioning properly - I’ve reconfigured my network properties a million times but NOTHING is preventing my computer from deciding to run away from the internet - I cannot send or receive email via Outlook when this happens, either, however, my TiVo connects the to the internet with no issues and both the TiVo and the computer are on the same network through the same router. What settings or programs would cause the computer to drop it’s internet connection but still remain connected to the network?

The problem is it has lots of enemies in the advertising world because it main function is to skip ads for viewers. Eventhough, it is the only DVR that offers aadvertising platform for advertisers.

I just wanted to roll back a few seconds to see what I missed, or record a show once in a while. I thought the 40Hr Tivo 2 would be able to record what I was actually watching when installed after a tuner and before the TV. But I keep getting a pop up about not being signed into the service, and I want to use the Hard Drive just like a VCR. IT does not. My Cox Cable DVR lets me roll back. It just seems lousy that I can not use the big Hard Drive for something, without buy the $19/mos service. Any real serious ideas??

Just today my wireless network name disappeared off of my laptop. My tivo and Wii still see the network and are working fine. Also, my laptop is able to pick up my neigbors networks just fine.

I have tried a few basic things, such as unplugging the modem/router, rebooting the computer, and using the “repair” function in windows.

Any ideas? Thanks!

I will be moving into an apartment which has wireless internet provided for me. Is there any way to connect to this ISP that requires a login and password every 24 hours without paying the $75 installation charge that they require to “set it up” for me? I have previously used the USB adapter successfully in two other locations with cable internet and a router. Any information would be helpful.

I have Tivo service and I don’t want to install a router. I have VOIP through wireless internet provider. What cable or equipment would I need to plug my tivo into something & dial up via voip? I have not seen an internet phone with an extra rj11 hook-up.
I have tried manually dialing the tivo #, but I can’t get the 2 modems in synch with each other over the VOIP connection, any suggestions?
